Cateraid History: Founded in 1982 by Randy J. Robinson and Robert Katz. Cateraid set out to meet both the chefs' needs of high quality and the operators' needs of cost effectiveness and consumer appeal. With a strong emphasis on service, their products are produced from scratch, the way a chef or restaurant operator would prefer. They specialize in labor-intensive pastries, cakes, and hors d'oeuvres while utilizing their economy of scale to offer such European style products at a reasonable price to the foodservice industry. Ready-made cakes and pastries have always been available for foodservice use. They are available in a wide range of quality and price, ranging from the low cost non-dairy products offered by some of the larger national manufacturers to limited specialized products put out by small local bakeries for a few restaurants and hotels. Cateraid identified a growing need in foodservice for a "pastry chef" quality, all natural pastry and cake line. In addition, they recognized the need for top quality service brought about by the " last minute" nature of the food industry. Thus, Cateraid had emphasized a higher level of service and had chosen to work hand in hand with smaller, specialized distributors in the Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana markets. These specialty distributors have been able to preserve Cateraid's commitment to service and quality. Cateraid products are flash frozen, enabling the customer to prevent waste and spoilage while preserving the quality. They take full advantage of the wonderful array of available Michigan agricultural products. |
